CNC (micro) Machining

Machining is a well-established technology to produce microfluidic parts, as well as flow cells and large sized manifolds. Our in-house capabilities for CNC machining ensure short turnaround times, making it the ideal solution for demonstrators and prototyping. Bondus employs the right machines to allow for precise micro-machining. 

We are experienced with machining to the required flatness tolerances to allow for subsequent bonding and functionalization. This can be both with other polymer parts, as well as the integration with glass or silicon parts. 

CNC machining is a material removal process where a cutting tool is used to remove the polymer. The size of the cutting tool therefore also defines the realized machined feature. 

An optical surface quality can be realized, also within channel, in order to allow for products where visual applications are demanding. 

Technology benefits include;

  1. Design freedom. Very suitable to generate iterations or multiple design variations 
  2. Fast turnaround, thus ideal to create prototypes and small series
  3. Optically transparent parts are possible with the right expertise


The technology is ideal for prototyping cycles and for small production volumes. Ideal for thicker parts or parts with specific interfaces, such as valve manifolds with threaded connectors. This even holds for larger production volumes of multi-layered manifolds. 

Generally speaking, CNC machining is still suitable down to 100 µm channel sizes but down to 50 µm depends on the materials.
