Our Partnership with Comate

Context: The Vision Behind Comate

What is Comate?

Comate is a Belgian company specializing in the development and production of innovative hardware solutions for clients across multiple industries, including healthcare and industrial automation. Their team of engineers and designers operates from offices in Leuven, Ghent, and Liège, and frequently works directly on-site to ensure close client collaboration. Leveraging deep expertise in both engineering and product design, and a track record of over 800 products, they know what it takes to build manufacturable, high-performance products built to thrive in the market.

What is our product?

With the motto ‘giving your product the best chance to succeed,’ Comate guides clients (from startups and spin-outs to multinationals) through the process of developing a hardware solution. Whether starting from an early-stage idea or a complex technical challenge, they develop products with one goal: to create the right solution, quickly and efficiently. They cover everything from concept to production, because they know that a good design must also be manufacturable. This approach has already resulted in over 800 globally used and award-winning products, with success stories like Perseus Biomics, Trince, Movu Robotics, Onward, Bekaert, Ngrave, Bright Energy, and MiDiagnostics.

Challenge

In our experience, microfluidic consumable development requires iterations to get to a working product. Every interface, channel, actuator and sensor has an influence on the total functionality. Cost-effective prototyping of such iterations in low product quantities is crucial for us to serve our customers.

Solution

Rapid prototyping and small-scale production of microfluidic chips is a niche that Bondus excels in. This allows us to design microfluidic chips and quickly adapt them to our machine interfaces.

The constant focus on scalability and Bondus’ targeted feedback help accelerate this process.

Their bonding techniques prove highly effective and can be applied without major CAPEX investments to develop initial products.

Results

As a result, we were able to perform functional tests, such as burst-pressure tests within a few weeks, bringing us significantly closer to a final product.

In addition, it gives us peace of mind that the assembly technology that is used is scalable, ensuring that the product we design can also be produced in larger quantities.
